🎯 Purpose [↑]    

To foster an excellent reading environment, optimize space utilization, and ensure equitable access to seating resources at the Macau University of Science and Technology Library (hereinafter referred to as "the Library"), these regulations are hereby established.

   

📝 Seat Usage Guidelines [↑]    

Basic Usage Rules

  1. During library operating hours, reading seats are available on a "first-come, first-served" basis.

  2. Please remove all personal belongings when leaving your seat.

  3. For temporary absences, patrons must complete a Temporary Absence Form and place it on the desk. Temporary absence is limited to 30 minutes.

  4. Library staff reserve the right to remove items left to occupy seats, making them available for other patrons.

  5. Seat saving for oneself or others is strictly prohibited.

  6. If you encounter seat saving, please contact library staff and do not handle it yourself.

  7. The library is a public space. Please conduct yourself with propriety—no loud conversations or disruptive behavior that may disturb other students.

  8. Please treat all facilities and equipment with care. Damage caused by improper use must be compensated at full cost.

  9. Please maintain seat cleanliness and remove trash when leaving.

📦 Retrieval Process for Confiscated Items

Patrons must personally visit the Circulation Desk at Block N to retrieve confiscated items:

Step 1                Present your Campus Card or valid ID, provide the seat number, and describe the confiscated items
Step 2                Staff will verify your name, student ID, phone number, seat number, and item description before handing over items for inspection
Step 3                After verification, patrons must sign a Declaration Form                
Step 4                Items will be released only after signing the Declaration Form

   

⚠️ Seat Saving Records & Violation Penalties [↑]    

⚡ Legal Basis: According to Section 3.3 of the Student Discipline and Rewards/Penalties Regulations in the Student Handbook, unauthorized occupation of university property constitutes a disciplinary violation.

The Library will maintain records of individual seat-saving violations and impose penalties based on frequency and severity:

✅ Correct Practices

  • Observe "first-come, first-served" principle

  • Remove all belongings when leaving

  • Contact staff for seat-saving issues

  • Use Temporary Absence Form (within 30 min)

❌ Prohibited Conduct

  • Saving seats for self or others

  • Handling others' belongings without authorization

  • Making loud noises in the library

  • Damaging facilities or equipment

🛡️ Personal Belongings Security

Please properly secure personal belongings and keep valuables with you at all times. The library is a public area, and unattended items carry risks of damage or loss. The Library assumes no liability for damage or loss due to inadequate personal care.

📦 Abandoned Item Disposal

  • Items held at the Circulation Desk will be considered abandoned if not claimed within three months

  • Food and beverages will be considered abandoned and disposed of the next day

📋 Supplementary Note: Matters not covered by these regulations shall be governed by the "Macau University of Science and Technology Library Regulations" and the "Macau University of Science and Technology Student Handbook."
